Cordir is, like many others, an orphan of the Brume. Like many other Ishgardians with nothing to their name, he felt he had little choice other than to enlist to fight the dragons. Little did he know he had a certain prowess for it, a skill that made him something of a young prodigy. Quickly he ascended to the ranks of the dragoons and was well regarded there.Unfortunately for him he also found he had an intense dislike for the bloodshed. No matter how often he was assured the war was just, that the dragons were enemies, that he did it all to protect innocent Ishgardians, it never felt right to him. No matter how often even his own life depending on drawing the blood of others, he found he regretted every drop spilled.Even more unfortunately for him, he did not have the strength to break rank. To leave, disappear, find another way, or even join the supposed 'heretics' he often fought again. Fear kept him from leaving. Fear of the consequences of any such actions. He was strong, but he was not brave. At least until he finally, fatefully, met Lady Iceheart. Separated from his typical comrades at arms after being carried away on the back of a dragon, Cordir hesitated to spill the blood of the women who stood before him and professed a longing for peace. She never drew steel of her own, even as she stood at the other end of Cordir's spear. She insisted there was another way, that war is not the only option. She insisted they could change the fate not only of all of Ishgard, but of dragonkind as well.Cordir was a changed man that day. The prospect of peace, something never once entertained by anyone he had ever known, began to drive him. It was something he wanted to fight for, rather than something he felt obligated to.The word 'fate' in particular stuck with him.He grew to hate the idea of it, the idea that things could only be one way. That there was nothing that could be done to change the ways of the world, or the outcomes of events. So much in fact, he now began to point his spear at the very heavens, at the concept of fate itself. He would become brave, he would save everyone from this awful war. Even if it meant taking control of the very stars to do so. So that's exactly what he did.Immediately, Cordir found the courage to stow his spear away and devoted all his waking moments to the study of Astrology. For if the stars themselves did not harbor the power to twist, change, or manipulate fate, then what did? He was no longer a dragoon, no, but neither was he suspected a heretic, for he was truly not one. He did not fight for Ishgard or for dragonkind. Cordir simply sought his own way to end the conflict and forge his own path towards peace.Whatever fates needed to be changed in order to achieve this, he would do it. If only he could harness enough of the power of the stars, he could end the war tomorrow. He would rival the power of Nymeia herself if he needed to. As blasphemous a thought as that was. He was that committed.Of course, the war did eventually end. Cordir did play his part in it and he was grateful for a chance at peace. Only for Ishgard to be drawn into another war, this time against the Empire. This war, too, was necessary they told him.Clearly he was not strong enough, was not predicting and changing the future with enough reach, with enough accuracy. He needs the power to change not only the fate of Ishgard, but of the whole world. He needs to create that peace, to help people everywhere be happy. So, once again, that is what he sets out to do. For so long as there is conflict, he will seek to right it. That is who he has become and what his purpose is. To bend fate itself towards peace.
